A Power Purchase Agreement is a contractual arrangement between an asset owner—specifically a renewable energy power generator—and an off-taker (usually a corporation or government entity). Under this agreement, the off-taker commits to purchasing the generator's electricity output at a competitive rate, which is lower than the prevailing grid electricity price.
For power producers (including project developers, independent power producers, and investors), PPAs deliver long-term financial stability: they secure fixed or predictable payment streams over an agreed term—typically 10 to 15 years. Meanwhile, for corporate buyers, PPAs offer a key advantage: they enable access to renewable electricity and help achieve operational cost savings—all without requiring upfront capital investments.
